CMBEC46 Hospital Tours

CMBEC46 will be offering specialized tours of some local Toronto hospital departments. Check out the interesting and innovative work happening out of these nearby hospitals! Tours will take place in parallel to other CMBEC events, from May 28-30.

Please see the tour list below  & description provided, with the start times. Registration for these tours is required and can be accessed  here. Registration will close on Friday May 3, 2024. 

Please note that meeting times for the tour will be 15 minutes before the listed start time and will be communicated with registrants. All locations are within a 10-minute walk from the conference venue. Additional details and required forms, if applicable, will be communicated to the registrants directly.

University Health Network: Hyperbaric Chamber Day 1, May 28th  3:30 PM Hyperbaric oxygen therapy uses 100 percent oxygen, administered at an increased atmospheric pressure. It increases the amount of oxygen that is carried by the blood, to areas of the body with compromised blood supply. Other effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy include growth of new vessels, optimization of white blood cell function, and restoration of tissue metabolic balance.  Using a large, 8-person chamber, as well as three single person chambers, our unit offers: 
  • Elective hyperbaric therapy 
  • Urgent care hyperbaric therapy 
  • Wound assessments 
  • Transcutaneous oximetry

University Health Network: Healthcare Human Factors  Day 2, May 29th 2:30 PM Located inside Toronto General Hospital, and operating as a partner of University Health Network, Healthcare Human Factors (HHF) works to transform healthcare products, services, and systems by combining design and engineering with in-depth understanding of humans and healthcare.

Mount Sinai Hospital Day 3, May 30th 11:00 AM Mount Sinai Hospital, part of Sinai Health, is an academic health science centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto. Clinical areas of focus include women’s and infants’ health, emergency medicine, cancer, complex orthopaedics, palliative care, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, geriatrics, and arthritis and autoimmune disease. This tour will focus on the simulation set up in our Biomedical Engineering department, where medical device integration is simulated.

Sick Kids  Day 3, May 30th  3:00 PM The SickKids tour in the Medical Engineering department will highlight the recent migration of their Computerized Maintenance Management System to Nuvolo/ServiceNow and their parts management strategy.
