Description

The Healthcare Human Factors Group (HHFG) of the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, University Health Network, Toronto, conducted an in-depth study and review of smart pump technology and its use in Ontario. The Ontario Healthcare Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC) has published their findings in the form of recommendations for healthcare organizations. Representatives from the HHFG along with George Sew from Hospira will provide a guided tour of what it really means to implement smart pump technology and how to recognize its challenges.

The teleconference will begin with key members of the University Health Network’s (UHN) Healthcare Human Factors Group (HHFG). They will speak to the effectiveness and safety of smart infusion technology and will provide insight relating to the recommendations of the Ontario Healthcare Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC). This will be followed by George Sew, Connectivity Systems Executive, Hospira Corporation. He will describe what a real system looks like with a description of one vendor's solution to the closed-loop medication administration process. Where appropriate, he will refer to the OHTAC recommendations in order to support the product design intentions.
