Jeswin Jeyasurya joined Western Clinical Engineering after receiving his Master's degree from the University of British Columbia in 2011. Since that time he has applied his engineering skills and creativity to the design of enhanced biomedical products. Jeswin has led the development of a new line of pneumatic surgical tourniquet cuffs. He also devised and led a clinical trial of a new technology for measuring tourniquet limb occlusion pressure, which was run in three health care facilities in greater Vancouver. This work has resulted in one patent and two patent applications, and has been implemented in a new Personalized Tourniquet System for Blood Flow Restriction. Jeswin has also invented and tested a wheelchair footrest retraction mechanism which has been patented, and designed a system to measure wheelchair drag force. He is a highly creative engineer, who consistently demonstrates sensitivity to technology-related needs of patients.
