Outstanding Canadian Biomedical Engineer, 2007

Since coming to Canada in 1985, Anthony Chan has worked in Biomedical Engineering, initially as a hospital clinical engineer, and since 1992, in biomedical engineering education. He is currently Program Head of the Biomedical Engineering Technology program at BCIT, and an adjunct professor in the biomedical engineering graduate program at UBC. He is the recipient of the 2009 BCIT Distinguished Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence and Research. He is also the education advisor for the Canadian Board of Examiners for Biomedical Engineering and Dialysis Technologists and Technicians, a Board member for the Canadian Board of Examiners for Clinical Engineering Certification, and a member of the international editorial board of the Journal of Medical and Biological Engineering. Anthony has served CMBES as Chair of the Publications committee, 1996-2000, and member of the Membership Committee, Awards Committee, and on Conference Organizing Committees. He is a professional engineer and a certified clinical engineer (CCE). His published book, Biomedical Device Technology: Principles and Design, is used worldwide in biomedical engineering education. Anthony's ``great sense of humour and love of his profession and teaching has influenced and produced, and exceptionally prepared for the future, leaders of Biomedical and Clinical Engineering in Canada".
