Mike Capuano began his career in the RF Communications industry in Toronto. He transitioned to the medical device field after accepting a Biomedical Technologist position in Hamilton. He currently holds the position of Manager, Biomedical Technology at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS). He is a Certified Clinical Engineer (U.S.) and Certified Biomedical Engineering Technologist (CAN). He chairs several HHS committees dealing with medical device safety including device related occurrences, laser safety, alarms management, electrosurgery safety, and ultrasound technical support. He is the Vice President of the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Society (CMBES), chairs the CMBES Peer Review committee and has formerly chaired the CMBES Professional Affairs, Publications, and Membership committees. He has moderated the CMBES Webinar Series for the last 3 years. He is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), former chair of AAMI’s Biomedical Instrumentation and Technology (BI&T) journal Editorial Board in the United States, and serves on the AAMI Technology Management Council (TMC) Supportability Task Force. He has published several featured health technology management papers and articles (winner of AAMI Journal’s Best Paper 1996). He was Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair for the 2015 World Congress on Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics (Toronto).
